Saelunn Vaelor, commonly known as Samuel Vale aboard the Orville, has been aboard ship for almost six months. And in those six months things have gone down hill ever so slowly, until he reaches his breaking point and potential no return.Can he find love and acceptance from those around him? Can he be comfortable with who he becomes, or will his fear and his past continue to define him?

“Well, good luck finding another chief of security then,” Talla smirked.
“Mine’s July 9th if anyone cares…” Gordon muttered.
“March 31st,” Talla pointed to herself.
“Wow, we’re all really close together,” Kelly pointed out.
“Isaac, how far apart are the closest dates?” Ed inquired.
“Lieutenant Keyali’s date of birth would be approximately 100 days to Lieutenant Malloy’s date of birth. Lieutenant Malloy's date of birth is 109 days to Captain Mercer’s date of birth. The difference between Captain Mercer’s date of birth and Commander Grayson’s date of birth would be approximately a week. Finally, gathering from previous data, the difference between Commander Grayson’s date of birth and Commander Bortus’ date of birth is 5 days,”
“Thanks,” Ed responded.
The room went silent, all of them except Isaac were thinking the same thing.

Timmis was certain the Kaylon were wrong about being emotionless. He had seen their anger, their disdain, and, even if they wouldn’t admit it, their fear. But this was the first time he had seen love.
Timmis tries to convince Isaac that Kaylon have emotions and has angst about not realizing that sooner and feeling like a failure.

“I do, I promise!” he sat down and sighed
“Look, think of it this way,” he began, “if a Captain gets involved in something like this, it’s provoking a member of the Union, but if a First Officer does it, it’s helping out a member of the crew,”
She groaned, “You’re kidding me…”
“Hey, you chose this job,” he reminded her brightly.
“...How am I going to do this?” she asked defeatedly.
He smiled, “The real question is, how are we going to do this?”
Kelly walked over to the replicator, “One pen and notepad,”
She grabbed it and sat down with him, smiling, “Good question.”

It had been a busy week, but right now they were in orbit, so Kelly and Ed thought this would be the perfect time to go to the mess hall and hang out.
Then Gordon heard about it and insisted he join them as well, inviting John and Bortus along. Neither of them trusted him but John was always up for a drink and Bortus begrudgingly agreed that he needed to de-stress somehow (especially now that his nicotine addiction was gone). At that point they decided they might as well invite Claire and Talla, but Claire was spending time with her sons and Talla was preparing for the Orville’s next visitors as far as making sure they weren’t murderers in disguise or something. Isaac, generally having only observed these mess-hall-and-drink-chats from afar also agreed to go when Kelly asked him.
Drinking whenever they weren’t speaking (well, except for Isaac obviously), the six crew mates talked about work, food, old art, and generally whatever came to their minds as they drank more and more...
Addressing the characters' alcohol addiction and some of their trauma that the show lwk glossed over.

And it was true. But at that moment, Isaac felt something new. A churning in his stomach, something in his mind that told him that he still didn’t understand what he was feeling, even if he wasn't lying. And when he saw Claire's enchanted eyes...
“I’m never going back to the way I was. Ever.”
"That's all I ever wanted,” and as he spoke, he suddenly felt his mind become fuzzy.
“And I want to be a father to your children. When I think of Ty’s face looking up at me, I gave him nothing in return,”
But even when all Isaac had known was what he was told to do, in that moment on the ship with Ty…
“And all he wanted was love. Well, I have enough love for all of you. And I'm going to prove it…”
Now, truly blessed with emotion, he could finally think outside of simple logic. All that meant, though, was that as he and Claire danced, Isaac pondered on something bigger.
