“That’s stupid!” Erlin had protested. “You’re like, the best Green Teen in our troop, dude. Let’s talk to him. If we both go, maybe—”
“Thanks man, but it won’t matter,” Beverly sighed. “Once my dad has got an idea in his head, that’s it.”
His quiet resignation was crushing. Erlin couldn’t find the words to reply, as badly as he’d wanted to. He remembers feeling helpless.
But now, as he’s captured by bullywugs and stuffed into a burlap sack, Erlin feels nothing but relief.
