Gene Belcher was a weird kid by all accounts. And he was happy with that. He was loud, and messy, and creative, and always did the thing that brought the most joy into the room. He liked bright colours, and fun sounds, and gross jokes, and he liked the people who would laugh along with him. Most of the time, he could be the only one laughing and still be having a good time.
All of that stuff, that quintesentially /Gene/ stuff, was normal for any kid. Kids like bright colours, and glitter, and dressing up, singing and dancing. But eventually, he stopped being so much of a kid. That didn't stop him from feeling like one, but apparently he was becoming that dreaded thing that his older sister Tina was: a teenager.
Or
Gene discovers that people react differently when he doesn't act like a "typical" boy, now that he's older. He discovers double standards, the perils of the gender binary, and new feeling about himself as he grows up.

After Linda Belcher is unlucky enough to come down with a case of breast cancer that the family can’t pay enough money to cure because they can’t afford medical insurance that covers it, Millie Frock turns out to have the connections to save her life and even her breast, but she wants something in return- the at least simulated love of Louise Belcher. Unless Louise wants to watch her mother die slowly and painfully, she will have to give Millie the girlfriend experience that she has been wanting for years now.
